Dr. Jacqueline Gu chose chiropractic as a career because of her personal experience growing up with a physical limitation. As a child, she broke her elbow and required surgery, but complications left her with little movement in that joint.

From life experiences to career path

From that incident, Dr. Gu learned how to adapt to everyday life, how to safely exercise with limited mobility, and the importance of strength training for long-term joint health. This experience has motivated her to dive into research which then led to formal training, first through a BSc in Kinesiology followed by a Doctor of Chiropractic (June 2025 graduate).

Homebound and happy

While her studies took her to Ontario, Dr. Gu has always wanted to return home. “I always knew I’d be returning to Vancouver, and being away for my studies only made missing it more,” she says. “I love being near the mountains and the water, and I love the pace of the city.” When not working, Dr. Gu divides her time between time at the gym, hikes with her beloved pup, and listening and playing music (she plays piano and guitar). “I used to be involved with a few team sports during my teen years and have learned a lot through being an athlete which I find useful as a chiropractor,” she says.

Why MaxFit 

Choosing MaxFit was an easy choice. “I got to shadow at various other clinics, but found MaxFit to offer the patient-centered care I resonate most with.” Plus, she adds, “the people in the team are friendly and approachable,” which also helped take out any doubts about joining the clinic. 

The journey ahead

“I want to keep learning and keep growing, and I will continue to challenge myself as a healthcare professional, so I can keep providing the best care to my present and future patients.” In the near future, Dr. Gu is hoping to pursue more in depth TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) training.
Her life philosophy is beautifully encapsulated in her favourite quote: ‘Life is only as good as your mindset.’ Having been through a few challenges herself, she knows it to be true.
