It’d be fair to say that some people get to work in a field that helps everyone stay alive and well, and jolly too, why not! Care to guess? If nutrition came to mind, you’re on the right track.
Starting on a path
Jessica Cochrane is a registered dietitian and our new team member. Being a foodie and loving to experiment in the kitchen (since she can remember) she transitioned to a career as a dietitian rather seamlessly. “Eating is something we all do, and food goes beyond ‘nutrition’, as it is tied to culture, celebrations, comfort, and emotions. I’m passionate about helping people build a positive relationship with food, finding joy in it while nourishing their bodies in a way that feels right for them.”
A place to be
Born and raised in the Lower Mainland, Jessica spent her undergrad and internship years in Nova Scotia, while knowing she’ll return home once done. “Vancouver has always appealed to me because of its closeness to nature, diverse cultures, amazing food, and music scene. The strong focus on healthy living and the many opportunities it offers for dietitians make it an ideal place to grow my career.”
Being a foodie obliges to some exploring. “Traveling is a big passion of mine, and I always plan trips around food and exploring culture through its cuisine,” she says, but her creativity spills past the food-related projects. “I love baking, reading, or working on textile crafts. In short, anything that lets me be creative.”
Beyond nutrition
When not working or cozying up inside, Jessica loves being outside and trying to make the most of each season: “I love staying active through running and strength training, and I love hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter.” Being part of a few running clubs has helped her connect to a welcoming community of like-minded people We know all about that at MaxFit, and speaking of that, we’re always happy to have team members help us bring the community together. “I look forward to getting involved in the community through the Maxfit events and also help advocate for and raise awareness about nourishing our bodies and minds with proper foods.”
Why choose MaxFit
As for choosing MaxFit, it made sense once she got to know the team. “From the moment I walked through the doors at Maxfit, I felt welcomed. The environment is inviting, and the team struck me as supportive and collaborative. I find that the best way to learn and provide best client care is by working with a strong, passionate, and communicative team that has clients’ best interests at heart.”
If you’re planning to work on a few worthwhile nutrition-related goals this coming year, make sure to reach out to Jessica. “I hope to build long-term relationships with clients and support them in achieving their goals. I love seeing the impact nutrition can have whether it’s preventing or managing chronic disease, improving sports performance and recovery, or developing practical food skills like label reading, meal planning, and smart grocery shopping.” Indeed, food is more than just nutrition; it is a multifaceted endeavour that helps improve health, performance and our ability to maintain a sustainable lifestyle.
Words matter
Jessica’s favourite quote, “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” (JK Rowling/Albus Dumbledore), speaks volumes about her belief: “progress over perfection and creating sustainable habits that support the whole person – body, mind and emotional well-being.”
Welcome to the MaxFit team, Jessica Cochrane! We’re excited to have you!
